Understanding Secure Sockets Layer

Training Code : TO-11
  • Description

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a security system installed on the website to protect data transactions between users and servers. SSL works by giving a trust label on the website - indicating that it is safe and reliable to the user - and encrypting data processed on the internet through encryption.

SSL is now an important component for websites. Websites that already have an SSL certificate can be easily recognized by the https protocol on their URL address (a padlock icon appears on the Chrome browser), while websites that don't have SSL still use the old http protocol and are labeled as not secured.

In addition to its main function as a protection for data transactions on the internet network, SSL will also add to the quality of SEO and the reputation of the website itself.

  • Reasons training needed
Every internet user must expect their personal data to be safe when transacting or surfing on cyberspace. However, the internet is actually an open network! All transactions carried out over the internet are vulnerable to wiretapping. This is the reason it is important to implement protection on the internet, one of which is through SSL. SSL can narrow the space for cyber crime and provide security for users to transact on the internet.
